Hungary–Africa Week is once again an unmissable event and platform for professionals, businesses, government and civil society organizations, government representatives, and stakeholders from the health and education who consider international knowledge sharing essential – and who, above all, believe in the power of innovating, thinking and acting together.

Alongside economic cooperation, education and research, civil society exchange, and the diverse world of cultural programs, this year healthcare will receive special focus. Health is one of the fundamental pillars of development and is closely interconnected with the economy, education, culture, and other areas of community life.

We believe that Hungary’s experience, training systems, innovations, and practical solutions provide a valuable foundation for the development of African countries. Equally important is that we also learn from our African partners – whether in terms of community approaches, creative solutions, or new perspectives. Hungary–Africa Week is therefore not only about health, but also addresses representatives from all fields who are seeking opportunities for cooperation in the spirit of partnership and development.

Background and Outcomes of the First Two Hungary–Africa Weeks

In 2022, the Africa Foundation developed the concept of Hungary–Africa Week and, as a pioneer, organized the first multi-sectoral thematic series of events, where economic, diplomatic, scientific, international development, humanitarian and cultural synergies took center stage.

I. HUNGARY –AFRICA WEEK: We Made History

At the Economic Day of the first Hungary–Africa Week, representatives of 71 Hungarian and more than 31 African organizations participated (including from Kenya, Mali, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa). During the week, more than 10 B2B meetings, 6 company visits, and over 80 presentations took place, with the presence of 15 nonprofit organizations and 30 educational institutions. Our main Hungarian partners included HAND Association, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Hungary Helps Agency, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, the Tempus Public Foundation, Duna-Aszfalt Ltd., Agrofeed Ltd., and the University of Pécs.

II. HUNGARY–AFRICA WEEK: We Created a Tradition

During the second Hungary–Africa Week, 10 venues hosted a wide range of programs, including professional days, trainings, company and factory visits, as well as an exhibition. More than 500 participants attended, among them representatives from 9 African countries. Discussions highlighted issues of education, international development, and the economy, while the training days provided opportunities for inspiring learning and knowledge exchange in smaller groups. The week concluded with an authentic presentation of African culture, creating a shared experience where business leaders, government representatives, civil society organizations, professionals, educators, students, and friends of Africa could meet and connect.

III. HUNGARY–AFRICA WEEK: Continuing the Tradition

Program Overview: 

At the third Hungary–Africa Week, each day is organized around a key theme. The Economic Day, with plenary sessions, workshops, and B2B meetings, supports the development of Hungarian–African business relations. 

The Healthcare Day focuses on innovation, training, and knowledge transfer, featuring professional lectures and panel discussions. It will also host the 1st Hungary–Africa Health Forum, creating an opportunity for Hungarian and African healthcare stakeholders to engage in direct dialogue and share their experiences. 

On the Education Day, we are organizing a rectors’ conference where universities will present themselves, showcasing their training programs, scholarship opportunities, summer universities, and exchange programs. This day provides institutions and professionals with the opportunity to establish direct connections and share knowledge. 

The civil and cultural spheres also play a role: on International Development Day, a conference, interactive workshops, cultural programs, and community initiatives will inspire participants and support networking. 

We conclude the week together with our co-organizer, the Africa Expo, at Hungexpo in Budapest, in the spirit of culture – with an exhibition, fair, workshops, and African flavors, where the rich diversity of African culture and shared community experiences take center stage.
